Fact. Plant based sushi is taking over the world. Fact. Plant based sushi is taking over the world. Well, our world at least. And we want more people to learn how simple, delicious, and fun it can be to put this on rotation in the meal planning for your family! Jake, being from California, used to almost put an all you can eat sushi restaurant out of business in one meal. We went on our very first date when we were 18 to Ami Sushi in Westwood and before I was 100% plant based, sushi was the last thing lingering since I’m pretty sure I had an emotional connection to it from our years at UCLA. But, we both finally learned that when we “craved sushi” we really just wanted that sushi rice and tamari flavor comb with the creamy avocado and the crunch of the cucumber. When we tried our first plant based sushi we mind blowingly didn’t even miss the fish! Now we save plant based sushi nights for date nights at home or a fun family activity since Leea loves a plant based sushi roll! Our favorite combo is oyster mushrooms cooked in a sweet mirin sauce, avocado, and cucumber (and Jake adds Spicy Mayo) but there are so many combos you can try. Here is the recipe for our favorite sauce! Jake’s Sweet “Eel Sauce”
1/4 Cup Mirin
1/4 Cup Tamari
1/4 Cup Organic Cane Sugar
Add all ingredients to a stovetop sauce pan and stir ingredients until it begins to steam. Don't bring to a boil. Let it steam for a few minutes and then remove from heat. Allow to cool in the fridge and you will have that classic eel sauce from sushi restaurants. If you’re totally not convinced yet that you can still enjoy sushi without the seafood, let us help you see the light! You’ll not only be so much healthier for it by avoiding high levels of mercury and heavy metals but you’ll also help to preserve our oceans so our children actually get to experience a living coral reef with fish in their lifetime! Mind blown. Check out this “science experiment” we did this morning as part of our weekly live on my @jennaleerude profile! We put store-bought synthetic kids’ vitamin supplements (not naming the brand here but let’s just say it was a very popular one) in one container. We then put the whole food fruit and veggie kids’ gummies that we have used as a family for 26 years into another container. We added water and waited. The results were shocking but also not very surprising considering we know that getting your nutrition from whole food plant sources is the most safe, efficient, and effective way to create a solid health foundation for your family. After awhile, the synthetic vitamins’ water had a neon tint to it and the outer coating was the only thing flaking off. The whole food gummies naturally dissolved into a fibrous juice like consistency that looked like fresh squeezed apple juice. Mind blown. It’s scary to think this could be a reflection of what is happening in your child’s body. Check your child’s gummies for these five criteria...
1. Do they have a “nutrition facts” label meaning they are a food and regulated by the FDA? (Supplements are simply not regulated in our country)
2. Are they chemical free (even stricter than organic) with a third party testing certification?
4. Do they have any kind of a poison control or “do not consume when you are pregnant” warning label on the back? If so, obviously that’s not something we want going into our babies’ bodies.
4. Does the product have gold standard clinical studies proving bioavailability on children eating the exact brand name gummies themselves? Can the company send it to you?
5. What happens when you put them in water? 😉 If all five things check out then great job mama! If you want us to send you a sample of our favorite fruit and veggie gummies just send us a message and we will happily get them to you! We want all children to have access to the real deal! #raisedonplants

There’s a new favorite breakfast parfait in the There’s a new favorite breakfast parfait in the @raisedonplants kitchen! Hot cinnamon butter pears with coconut yogurt and homemade blueberry pecan granola! We just peeled and sliced fresh pears and sautéed them on the stovetop (you could absolutely use a grill pan too) with a little vegan butter and cinnamon. Homemade granola is SO easy.  Who knew? Add 3 cups of gluten free oats, raw nuts of your choice (we used pecans), and dried fruit of your choice (we used dried blueberries) to a bowl.  Mix in 2 tbsps olive oil, a little salt, a little cinnamon, a tsp of vanilla, extract, and enough maple syrup to sweeten it to your taste.  Add this granola to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and oven bake at 325 degrees stirring every 15 minutes.  Ours was ready around 40 minutes. Just watch it at the end so it doesn't burn and you have healthy homemade granola! For the yogurt we used unsweetened coconut yogurt and mixed a little bit of our favorite vanilla superfood powder (link in bio) in it to add more nutrition and make it taste extra creamy and vanilla-y. (Definitely just made that word up like my two year old makes up words that don’t exist) Now just combine everything together into the most delicious plant based parfait! Drizzle with maple syrup if you need it to be a little on the sweeter side. Store anything you don’t eat in mason jars for the next day and the next day and the next. #raisedonplants #ropfamily

Where are all my hummus snobs at?! The difference Where are all my hummus snobs at?! The difference between store bought and homemade hummus is about as big as the size of our stuffed animal collection that is taking over any hope I had of maintaining a decluttered home. Wait what was I just talking about? Hummus oh yes. If you’ve never made hummus yourself once you do it you will be so mad that you waited this long. Here is our simple recipe below for creamy classic hummus. My favorite additions are spinach and artichokes or extra basil to turn it into pesto hummus but you do you friend. Our girl @clinelewisjones gifted us the most amazing handmade “Raised on Plants” charcuterie board from her friend’s shop in Columbia, SC. In the meantime, it at least makes a great background for Leea’s snack tray today. It’s the little things right? Hopefully everyone is seeking to find joy and gratitude in the details like we are these days. 🙏🏻 #raisedonplants #ropfamily
